Moments and Whatnauts · 1974
Recording

The Moments and the Whatnauts recorded the single as a label-mate collaboration, with Al Goodman and Harry Ray producing the release. The record appeared in 1974 and was issued in the U.S. on Stang before later international releases on All Platinum and Philips. Released as a crossover soul single, it became a major hit in the UK and a substantial R&B success in the U.S. Its playful hook and dancefloor appeal helped make it one of the groups' best-known records. The song became a durable sample source and was later reworked by hip-hop and R&B artists, including Wale, New Kids on the Block, and Ultimate Force. It remains a widely recognized 1970s soul staple.
