Make Me Believe in You

Curtis Mayfield wrote and produced the single for Patti Jo, a Nashville teenager he had brought into his orbit in 1972. It was issued in 1973 on Scepter's Wand imprint. The track stood out as an early vocal disco record and a polished Mayfield production, later singled out in writing about the early history of disco. Its original release helped establish Patti Jo as a cult soul singer beyond her small discography. The song became a durable rare-groove favorite, leading to a Tom Moulton remix in 1975 and later covers by Curtis Mayfield and Melba Moore. It remains one of the most remembered titles from the Scepter/Wand soul catalog.
