Jungle Boogie

Kool & the Gang · 1973
Recording

Kool & the Gang recorded the track in New York during the sessions for Wild and Peaceful, with Gene Redd Jr. overseeing the production. The performance centered on the band’s tight rhythm section, group chants, and Donald Boyce’s spoken vocal part. Released as a single in 1973, it became a major crossover hit and pushed Kool & the Gang into the pop mainstream. It peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the group’s defining records. The track became one of the most sampled funk records of its era and remained a signature song for Kool & the Gang. Its enduring reach was reinforced by later uses in film and hip-hop, especially after Pulp Fiction renewed its popularity.
