Hercules
Aaron Neville · 1973Recording
Recorded in New Orleans for Mercury in 1973, with Allen Toussaint and Marshall E. Sehorn producing the session and the Meters providing the backing groove. The single paired the title track with "Going Home." "Hercules" arrived as a Mercury single in August 1973 and stood out as a tightly arranged piece of New Orleans funk in Neville’s catalog. Contemporary coverage identified it as a notable Toussaint production on Mercury. The track became a rare-groove favorite, resurfaced through later reissues, and has been widely sampled. It has also been covered by artists including Paul Weller and Boz Scaggs.
