Damian Marley · 2005
Recording

Recorded for Damian Marley’s third studio album in 2005, with Damian Marley and Stephen Marley credited as producers and James Caruso and Marc Lee among the recording engineers. The track was built around the album’s original session work and release configuration as the lead single. The single became Damian Marley’s breakout international hit and the title track that defined the album’s campaign. It reached No. 13 in the UK and No. 55 on the US Billboard Hot 100, giving Marley a rare crossover presence from reggae into pop and rap radio. The song became one of Damian Marley’s signature recordings and a durable reference point for modern reggae-dancehall crossover. Its chorus and beat have been widely recognized through later covers, samples, and performances, including Alicia Keys’ medley version.
