Tear Down The Dance Hall

Tear Down The Dance Hall

Sugar Minott · 2008
Recording

The cut came out of the Wackie's and Black Roots circle around Lloyd Barnes, Clive Hunt, and Lincoln Minott. It was issued on Wackie's in 2008 as the B-side to Jah Batta and Black Roots Players' Informer and also appeared as a bonus track on Dance Hall Showcase Vol. II. The release returned a sound-system-era Wackie's cut to circulation, pairing it with material from the same Informer rhythm family. It documented Sugar Minott's Bronx and Kingston dancehall connections during renewed interest in Wackie's archival reggae catalogue. The track remains tied to Wackie's early dancehall catalogue and Sugar Minott's wider role as a singer, producer, and mentor in the scene. Its reissue helped preserve the label's Black Roots and Youth Promotion-era material for later listeners.
