Cherry Tulips
Headlights · 2008Recording
Headlights recorded the song in 2007 at an Illinois farmhouse near Champaign and self-produced the session. The track features the band’s core trio: Erin Fein, Tristan Wraight, and Brett Sanderson. “Cherry Tulips” served as the first single from Some Racing, Some Stopping and became one of the album’s most noted songs. Critics highlighted it as a bright, airy piece of indie pop that showed the band in a more focused, streamlined mode. The song remained one of Headlights’ best-remembered tracks from the Polyvinyl era and was later included on Polyvinyl’s anniversary compilation material. It continues to represent the band’s shift toward classic-sounding, melody-driven indie pop.
