Kevin Saunderson built the track with James Pennington, added drums and piano with Terry Baldwin and Art Forest, then took Paris Grey to Detroit to record vocals in Juan Atkins’ studio. Juan Atkins handled the first mix, and Derrick May later prepared an edit. Released in 1988, it introduced Inner City’s crossover formula, pairing Detroit techno with a pop-minded vocal hook. It became a major club record and reached the UK Top 10, confirming the project’s mainstream breakthrough. The track remains one of Inner City’s signature songs and a touchstone for vocal house and techno crossover. It is still cited for its influence and has been repeatedly revisited in later mixes, remixes, and retrospectives.
