Mia Hesterley · 1988
Recording

The track was written by Blake Baxter and Kevin Saunderson and recorded under the Mia Hesterley name for the 1988 compilation Techno! The New Dance Sound of Detroit. It appeared among early Detroit recordings assembled by Neil Rushton, with Derrick May credited as Detroit coordinator for the compilation. Released by 10 Records and Virgin in 1988, the track formed part of the compilation that introduced Detroit's electronic dance sound to many UK and European listeners under the techno name. Its whispered vocal and stripped machine groove placed it beside work by Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Blake Baxter, Eddie Fowlkes, and others from the first Detroit wave. The track remained tied to the foundational Detroit techno narrative through later reissues and the Techno One and Two compilation. It is one of the more obscure exclusive cuts from Techno! The New Dance Sound of Detroit, valued for documenting the Saunderson and Baxter network around the scene's export moment.
