Techno Music

Model 500 · 1987
Recording

The track was produced, written, and performed by Juan Atkins under his Model 500 alias. It appeared as Techno Music (M500 Version) on the 1993 Classics compilation, released by R&S Records as a collection of early Model 500 recordings and remixes. Released in 1993, it was part of the compilation that consolidated Atkins's first decade of Model 500 work for the European techno market. The track's title directly framed the music around the term that had become attached internationally to Detroit's electronic dance sound. The track remained in circulation through later Classics reissues on R&S and Metroplex. It stands as a compact statement of Atkins's Model 500 identity during the period when Detroit techno's early catalogue was being canonized.
