Recording

Model 500 recorded Night Drive for the 1985 Metroplex 12-inch Night Drive (Thru-Babylon), backed with Time Space Transmat and No UFO's (D-Mix). The release was written, produced, and performed by Juan Atkins under the Model 500 name. The single followed No UFO's in the first run of Metroplex releases and helped establish Juan Atkins' solo vocabulary after Cybotron. Its futuristic night-driving mood became part of the early Detroit electronic sound exported through Metroplex. Night Drive remained a core Model 500 title through the 1993 Classics compilation and later Metroplex reissues. It continues to represent Atkins' early blueprint for sleek, machine-led Detroit club music.
