Recording

Recorded in Kingston and produced by Winston Riley, the track featured Sophia George's lead vocal over the popular Answer rhythm associated with Techniques productions. The recording was created during the formative years of Jamaica's digital dancehall transition. The single became an international breakthrough hit and one of the most successful recordings by a female Jamaican artist of the decade. Its playful lyrics and memorable melody helped bring dancehall to a broader mainstream audience. The track remains one of the defining songs of 1980s dancehall and a landmark recording by a female performer in the genre. It has been widely covered, sampled and referenced, retaining strong recognition well beyond Jamaica.
