Pop Life
Prince & The Revolution · 1985Recording
Prince recorded “Pop Life” at Sunset Sound Studio 2 in Hollywood on 19–20 February 1984, with The Revolution working through the track during the Around the World in a Day sessions. The single later received a Sheila E. remix for the 12-inch release. Released in 1985 as the third single from Around the World in a Day, it became a U.S. top-ten hit and helped define the album’s post-Purple Rain shift toward a more psychedelic, Beatles-influenced sound. It reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song remains one of the signature singles from Around the World in a Day and a key example of Prince’s mid-1980s stylistic pivot. It is regularly cited in retrospectives on his experimental run with The Revolution.
