The Show

Recorded in 1985 by Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew with MC Ricky D, later known as Slick Rick. The single was produced by Dennis Bell and Ollie Cotton for City Slicker Productions. Released on August 13, 1985, as a Reality/Fantasy single, it became one of the defining early hip-hop records of the era. It reached No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart and was named Spin magazine's top rap single of the year. The track remained a cornerstone of old-school rap, later becoming one of the genre's most familiar crossover records. It also helped establish Slick Rick and was widely sampled and referenced in later hip-hop and pop releases.
