Fantastic Freaks At The Dixie

Recorded live at The Dixie in the Bronx for the 1983 Wild Style soundtrack, with Grand Wizard Theodore and members of the Fantastic Five performing the set. The track appears on the soundtrack release as “Fantastic Freaks At The Dixie.” The track captured one of the defining live battle performances preserved in Wild Style, the landmark hip-hop film and soundtrack. The soundtrack was released by Animal Records and became one of the key documents of early 1980s hip-hop. “Fantastic Freaks At The Dixie” remains widely sampled and referenced, including in later hip-hop and electronic recordings. It endures as a canonical document of early battle-rapping and turntablism from the Wild Style era.
