Rock the Bells

LL Cool J · 1985
Recording

Recorded in 1985 at Chung King Studios in New York City for LL Cool J’s debut album, Radio, under Rick Rubin’s direction. The track was cut with LL Cool J and Rubin as the key creative team. Released as one of the early defining Def Jam-era singles, it helped establish LL Cool J as a breakout voice in mid-1980s hip-hop. It became one of the standout tracks from Radio and a signature statement of his early style. The song remained a core LL Cool J calling card and was later sampled by LL Cool J himself on "Mama Said Knock You Out." Its title and hook also became part of hip-hop’s wider cultural vocabulary.
