Pump Me Up

Pump Me Up

Trouble Funk · 1982
Recording

Recorded for Trouble Funk’s 1982 studio album Drop the Bomb, with the group’s core Washington, D.C. lineup featuring Tony Fisher, Emmett Nixon, Robert Reed, James Avery, Taylor Reed, and Chester Davis. The original release credits Reo Edwards as executive producer. The track became one of Trouble Funk’s signature go-go recordings and a defining cut from the 1982 Drop the Bomb album. It helped carry Washington, D.C. go-go into wider awareness through its dense percussion, chanting, and club-oriented structure. "Pump Me Up" became a major source of material for later hip-hop and dance records, and it remains one of Trouble Funk’s most sampled songs. Its refrain and groove have kept it present in DJ culture, compilations, and retrospective coverage of early sampling.
