Big Up

Recording

Rayvon and Shaggy recorded “Big Up” as a 1992 dancehall collaboration tied to the New York/Jamaican sound system circuit, with Shaun “Sting International” Pizzonia credited as producer on the original issue. The track was cut for the Signet label and later appeared on Shaggy’s Pure Pleasure album on Virgin. “Big Up” became one of the duo’s early regional dancehall signatures and helped establish Rayvon as Shaggy’s recurring vocal partner. Contemporary and retrospective discographies describe it as a local hit that helped bring the pair wider industry attention. The song remained part of Shaggy and Rayvon’s best-known catalogue and continued to surface on compilations and best-of releases. Later releases and references also note its lasting cultural footprint, including its phrase-catching impact in reggae and dancehall circles.
