Agony
Pinchers · 1987Recording
Pinchers recorded Agony for Lloyd James, with King Jammy credited as producer and arranger on the original Jammy's and Live And Love releases. The single was issued in 1987 with King Jammy All Stars' Version on the B-side and later appeared on the Jammy's album Agony. The track became Pinchers' breakthrough hit and helped establish him as one of King Jammy's major late-1980s vocalists. It placed his plaintive delivery over the Big Belly Man rhythm during the height of Jammy's digital dancehall period. Agony remains Pinchers' signature record and a staple of King Jammy's 1980s catalogue. It continues to appear on Jammy's anthologies and reggae selector compilations as one of the era's defining singjay-style hits.
