Love How The Gal Dem Flex

Buju Banton · 1992
Recording

Recorded in Kingston at Penthouse Recording Studio during Buju Banton’s early Penthouse period, with Donovan Germain overseeing the session and Dave Kelly closely involved in the production work. It was issued as part of the Mr. Mention era that established Banton as a major dancehall voice. The track was one of the standout cuts from Mr. Mention, an album that helped push Buju Banton to the front of early-1990s dancehall. Its party-oriented praise of women’s style fit the era’s sound while showing the sharp melodic delivery that marked his breakthrough. It remains one of the signature songs from Mr. Mention and continues to appear on later reissues and compilation releases. The track is still associated with the classic Penthouse/Dave Kelly Buju Banton sound that shaped dancehall in the 1990s.
