Recording

The Burke brothers, formerly of the Five Stairsteps, recorded the track at Sound Mixers in New York with keyboardist Dean Gant and drummer Steve Ferrone. Clarence Burke Jr. and Alex Masucci produced it, with Steven Stanley handling the mix. The single returned the Burke brothers to the American R&B top ten, reaching number nine in 1980. It became their biggest hit as the Invisible Man's Band and crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100. Its bassline and other musical elements became material for later sampling, including Mach's Funky Mix and Jestofunk's Disco Queen remix. DJ Mes and Sonny Fodera also sampled it for Freaks on the Floor.
