Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)

Recorded during the Destiny sessions in 1978 at Los Angeles-area studios, including Record Plant, Cherokee, Total Experience, Heiders/Filmways, and Dawnbreakers. The Jacksons produced the track themselves, with Michael Jackson on lead vocal and Michael and Randy Jackson credited as the writers. The single became the Jacksons’ biggest Epic-era hit and a defining dance record of the late 1970s. It helped establish the group’s full creative control after Motown and became a major club and radio staple. The track remained one of the Jacksons’ most durable songs, regularly appearing on compilations and concert set lists. Its groove and vocal hooks were widely sampled and referenced in later hip-hop and dance records.
