Metropolis recorded New York Is My Kind Of Town for the 1978 Salsoul album The Greatest Show On Earth, featuring The Sweethearts of Sigma. The basic tracks were recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich, with vocals and horns recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, and Tom Moulton mixed the release. The track formed part of Salsoul's late-1970s attempt to connect Philadelphia vocal power with the Munich studio sound associated with Thor Baldursson. Its extended album and club format made it a DJ-facing New York tribute record rather than a pop-chart single. New York Is My Kind Of Town remains a collector-favoured Salsoul deep cut from the Metropolis album. Its connection to Tom Moulton, Thor Baldursson and The Sweethearts has kept it visible among disco reissue listeners and specialist DJs.
