I Like (What You're Doing to Me)
Young & Company · 1980Recording
The single came from Young & Company’s 1980 Brunswick debut, with the group’s New Jersey lineup centered on William Young and Michael Young, who handled the production under the Young & Young credit. The original release was issued as a 12-inch Brunswick single in the U.S. and later in the U.K. on Excaliber. The track became Young & Company’s breakthrough, reaching No. 20 on the UK Official Singles Chart and spending 12 weeks on the chart. It also earned the group Record Business’ Top New Act Disco Award for 1980. The song has remained a durable disco standard: WhoSampled lists it as sampled in 35 songs, and Joya recorded a later cover. Its continued reuse has kept it present in hip-hop, R&B, and dance-digging circles.
