Shack Up
Banbara · 1975Recorded in Detroit by the studio project Banbarra, a group assembled by producer and songwriter Michael Stokes with local session musicians and vocalists. The track was cut during the mid-1970s and built around a tightly locked rhythm section, prominent bass line and dance-floor focused arrangement. Released as a single in 1975, it became a regional club success and later gained wider recognition among disco, funk and rare-groove audiences. Its infectious groove and minimalist vocal hook made it a favourite with DJs. The recording became a heavily sampled breakbeat and funk source for hip-hop producers and remains one of the most sought-after releases from the Detroit independent soul scene. It is widely regarded as Banbarra's signature recording and a staple of crate-digging culture.
