Natty Kung Fu
Dillinger · 1975Recording
It was cut in Kingston at Jamaica Recording Studio during the Studio One sessions that yielded Ready Natty Dreadie, with Clement “Coxsone” Dodd overseeing the production. The track rides the “Fever” rhythm and was issued as a Dillinger deejay cut in the Studio One orbit. The track sat squarely in Studio One’s mid-1970s deejay tradition, pairing Dillinger’s toasting style with one of the label’s established rhythm tracks. It later resurfaced on Studio One DJ-focused compilations, confirming its place in the label’s canon. It has remained a recognizable Dillinger deep cut and has been sampled by Massive Attack on “Risingson.” Its continued circulation on Studio One compilations has kept it in the catalogue of classic Jamaican deejay records.
