My First Mistake

The Chi-Lites recorded My First Mistake for the 1977 Mercury album The Fantastic Chi-Lites. Richard Rome produced the track, Phil Hurtt and Richard Rome wrote it, and Ken Present is credited as engineer. The single placed the group in the late-1970s club market during its Mercury period and reached number 63 on Billboard's R&B chart. It extended the Chi-Lites catalogue beyond their early-1970s Brunswick hits into a more dance-oriented setting. The track remains notable for later dance sampling, especially in David Morales's Needin' U. It is also documented as source material for DJ Duke and John Julius Knight productions.
