You Gave Me Love

Recorded by Crown Heights Affair during the sessions for the group's Sure Shot album, featuring the Brooklyn-based ensemble's established horn section, rhythm players and vocalists. The single was produced by the group's core songwriting and production team during their transition from late-1970s disco into a more polished dance-funk sound. Released in 1980, the song became one of the group's most successful international singles and strengthened their reputation in clubs across Europe and North America. Its uplifting vocal arrangement and driving groove made it a dance-floor favourite during the post-disco period. The recording remains one of Crown Heights Affair's signature songs and continues to receive support from disco, boogie and modern soul DJs. Its groove and vocal passages have also made it a source for later sampling and re-edits within dance music culture.
