Recording

Norma Jean Wright recorded Sorcerer in 1978 for her debut solo album Norma Jean after leaving Chic. The album was recorded at Power Station in New York and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The single extended Wright's move from Chic vocalist to solo artist on Bearsville Records. Written and produced by Rodgers and Edwards, it placed her solo debut directly inside the Chic Organization's late-1970s studio sound. Sorcerer remains a key track from Wright's only solo album and a sought-after Chic-related disco recording. Its association with Rodgers, Edwards and the Power Station sessions keeps it visible among Chic, disco and dance collectors.
