Recording

Rare Pleasure recorded Let Me Down Easy as a 1976 single for Cheri Records, with Sandy Barber singing lead vocals. David Jordan produced the recording and co-wrote it with Andrew A. Smith. Let Me Down Easy became an underground New York club record and a Northern and modern soul crossover favorite. Its 12-inch disco version helped establish the record's reputation among DJs and collectors outside the mainstream singles chart. The track remained highly prized in rare-groove and disco circles and later returned through official South Street Disco reissues. Its piano riff and vocal groove reached a wider dance audience after David Morales sampled it for Needin' U.
