Take That to the Bank
Shalamar · 1978Shalamar recorded Take That to the Bank for the 1978 album Disco Gardens, the group's second album and the only Shalamar album to feature Gerald Brown alongside Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel. The single was produced by Dick Griffey and Leon Sylvers, with rhythm arrangements credited to Griffey, Gene Page and Sylvers, and horn and string arrangements credited to Larry Farrow. The single was an early hit for Shalamar's SOLAR period, reaching number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 11 on Billboard's R&B chart. In Britain, it became a Top 20 single and helped establish the group before the later Howard Hewett lineup. The record remains one of the defining early Shalamar singles and a key bridge between the group's Soul Train origins and the later SOLAR dance-pop sound. Its 1978 chart run kept the group visible in UK club and pop culture before their larger early-1980s breakthrough.
