I'm A Sucker For Your Love

Teena Marie recorded I'm A Sucker For Your Love for her 1979 debut album Wild and Peaceful, recorded between August 1978 and January 1979. Rick James wrote, co-produced, and duetted on the track, with Art Stewart co-producing and Motown session players including Oscar Alston, Wally Ali, and members of James's Stone City Band supporting the album sessions. I'm A Sucker For Your Love was Teena Marie's debut single and introduced her as Rick James's Motown protégée on Gordy Records. It reached number 8 on Billboard's R&B chart and number 43 on the UK singles chart, giving her a first top-ten R&B hit. The track remained a key early Teena Marie record and a defining document of her Rick James collaboration. Its call-and-response vocal format and funk arrangement helped establish the persona that led into Lady T, Irons in the Fire, and her later self-produced work.
