Lip Up Fatty
Bad Manners · 1980Bad Manners recorded and issued the single in 1980 for Magnet Records, with Roger Lomas producing the session at Ro-Lo Productions. The record featured “Night Bus to Dalston” as the B-side and highlighted Alan Sayag’s harmonica lead. Released in June 1980, “Lip Up Fatty” became a UK Singles Chart hit, peaking at No. 15 and spending 14 weeks on the chart. It helped establish Bad Manners as one of the most recognizable acts in the ska revival. The song remained one of Bad Manners’ signature numbers and was preserved in the Dance Craze soundtrack, extending its visibility beyond the original single. Tim Armstrong later recorded a version for his Tim Timebomb and Friends project, keeping the track in circulation for later ska and punk audiences.
