Carol Cool · 1980
Recording

Carol Cool’s version is a reggae cover of Diana Ross’s 1980 hit and was issued as part of a 1980 Hawkeye release, paired on a split single with Desi Roots’ “One In A Million You.” It is credited to producer Hawkeye (Roy Forbes-Allen). The track translated a major disco hit into a Jamaican reggae/dub setting, placing Carol Cool within the Hawkeye Records orbit. It has been noted as a distinctive reggae cover from the early 1980s. It remained a cult reggae-disco selection and was later revived through compilation appearances and DJ interest. The track’s afterlife comes largely from its transformation of a familiar pop-disco song into a dubby reggae version.
