Recording

Chain Reaction recorded Dance Freak as a 1980 New York disco single for Sound Of New York, USA, a P&P-affiliated label. The project centered on keyboardist Dwight Brewster of The Imperials and percussionist Harold Sargent of Wood, Brass & Steel. Dance Freak became Chain Reaction's defining release and a specialist New York dance-floor record. Its reputation rests on percussion, guitar and bass figures, brass accents, and a party-chant structure favored by club DJs. Dance Freak remained active through disco reissue culture and later DJ circulation. Reissues described it as a favorite of veteran DJs including Kenny Dope and Danny Krivit.
