Let’s Take It to the Stage

Funkadelic · 1975
Recording

Recorded by Funkadelic during sessions for the album Let's Take It to the Stage, with George Clinton directing an expanded collective that included key P-Funk musicians such as Eddie Hazel, Michael Hampton, Bernie Worrell and Bootsy Collins. The recording combined hard funk grooves, psychedelic rock elements and ensemble vocals characteristic of the group's mid-1970s sound. Released in 1975 as the title track of the album, the song served as a bold statement of Funkadelic's musical identity and featured lyrical challenges directed at rival acts in the funk and soul world. It captured the confidence and competitive spirit of P-Funk during its rise to prominence. The recording remains a cornerstone of the P-Funk catalogue and is frequently cited as an example of Funkadelic's fusion of funk, rock and social commentary. Its grooves, vocal passages and instrumental sections have been widely sampled and referenced by hip-hop artists and producers.
