Brand Nubian · 1992
Recording

Recorded in 1992 at Marathon Studios for Brand Nubian's second album In God We Trust, after Grand Puba and DJ Alamo had left the group. Diamond D produced the track, with Lord Jamar, Sadat X, and DJ Sincere forming the active group lineup. Released by Elektra in late 1992, the single became Brand Nubian's biggest Hot 100 entry and reached number 2 on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart. It also drew controversy for homophobic lyrics that were later altered on some releases. The track remains one of Brand Nubian's best-known records from the post-Grand Puba era. Its Diamond D production, heavy sample base, and disputed single edits keep it central to discussion of the group's early-1990s catalogue.
