Slow Down
Brand Nubian · 1990Recorded during the One For All sessions in 1989 and 1990, Slow Down featured Grand Puba, Sadat X and Lord Jamar with production credited to Brand Nubian. The album sessions are documented around DJ Jazzy Jays Studio in the Bronx, with Dante Ross serving as executive producer. Released by Elektra as a single in 1991 after appearing on One For All, Slow Down reached number 3 on Billboard Hot Rap Singles and number 63 on Hot R and B Hip Hop Songs. Its Edie Brickell sample and direct cautionary lyrics made it one of Brand Nubians most visible early records. The track remains one of Brand Nubians signature singles and a central record from the acclaimed One For All album. Its sample blend of Edie Brickell, Funkadelic and Kool and the Gang kept it prominent in sample based hip hop history.
