Needle to the Groove

Recorded and mixed at I.N.S. Studios in New York City. Kurtis Mantronik produced and handled scratches, with MC Tee credited alongside him on the original 12-inch single. The single introduced Mantronix’s sharp, futuristic electro-rap style to a wider audience and became one of the group’s defining early records on Sleeping Bag Records. Contemporary trade coverage identified it as a notable club and street record. The track remained a signature Mantronix record and continued to circulate through reissues and anthologies. It was later sampled by Beck on “Where It’s At,” extending its reach into 1990s alternative pop.
