Soulsonic Force · 2023Recording
Developed by Arthur Baker and John Robie in New York after the success of Planet Rock, the track featured Afrika Bambaataa and Soulsonic Force with lyrics by MC G.L.O.B.E. Baker and Robie produced, arranged and mixed the record for Tommy Boy. Released by Tommy Boy in December 1982, it was the follow up to Planet Rock and reached number 36 on the US R and B chart and number 18 on the US dance chart. It was praised by critics including Robert Palmer and ranked among NMEs tracks of 1983. The record became one of electro hip hops defining singles and a major template for drum machine led rap production. Its vocal and rhythm elements have been sampled by later artists including LL Cool J, DJ Khaled and Moby.
