Working Day and Night
Michael Jackson · 1979It was recorded in May 1979 at Gateway Studio on Salcott Road in Clapham, near Wandsworth Common, during the En Trance sessions. Lester Batchelor said the track was cut in one take with Batchelor, Andy Sojka, Jerry Pike, Ray Johnson, Stewart Cawthorne, Peter Hinds, and sound engineer Abbey involved in the session. The track became a Brit-funk and underground disco calling card, first breaking in Bristol before spreading through UK and New York dance floors. It reached the UK Singles Chart and was licensed to MCA for wider distribution. It has remained a durable club record, repeatedly reissued and remixed, and it has been sampled by later dance and electronic acts. Lester Batchelor described it as continuing to influence musicians, DJs, and dancers across generations.
