Need Money

Recorded in 1984 by Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers for T.T.E.D. Records. The single was produced by Maxx Kidd and Reo Edwards. The track became one of Chuck Brown’s best-known 1980s go-go singles and reached No. 26 on Billboard’s US R&B chart. It helped push Washington, D.C. go-go into wider circulation beyond the local scene. It became a durable sample source for later hip-hop records, including Kid 'n Play and Wreckx-n-Effect, and it remained in use in D.C.-area promotional campaigns. The song also kept circulating through later covers and live use, including Clutch’s version and intro usage.
