I Get Lifted

George McCrae · 1974
Recording

Recorded in 1974 at TK Studios in Hialeah, Florida, the track was produced by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch with the Miami-based session musicians who formed the core of the TK Records sound. George McCrae delivered the lead vocal shortly after the success of his breakthrough hit 'Rock Your Baby'. Released as a follow-up single to 'Rock Your Baby', the record became another major R&B and crossover success for McCrae. Its upbeat groove helped reinforce the emerging Miami soul and early disco sound associated with TK Records. The track became a widely sampled source in hip-hop and dance music, particularly its drums, bassline and vocal phrases. It remains one of McCrae's signature recordings and a staple of 1970s dance-floor retrospectives.
