The Chakachas · 1971
Recording

Recorded in 1971 by the Belgian group The Chakachas, the track was produced during sessions that blended Latin percussion, funk rhythms and provocative vocal elements aimed at the international dance market. The recording featured the band's signature combination of Afro-Cuban grooves, jazz influences and nightclub-oriented arrangements. Released in 1971, the single became an international crossover hit and one of the most commercially successful examples of Latin funk from Europe. Its suggestive vocals generated controversy while helping the record gain substantial attention on radio and in clubs. The recording became a cornerstone of breakbeat culture and one of the most sampled funk records of the 1970s. Its drum breaks, bassline and vocal passages have been used extensively in hip-hop, dance music and rare-groove culture, ensuring its lasting influence.
