Liquid Liquid · 1983
Recording

Recorded and mixed at Radio City Music Hall Studio in New York City for the 1983 Optimo EP. Ed Bahlman produced the session, with Liquid Liquid performing the track as part of the band's downtown New York studio work. The track was the centerpiece of Liquid Liquid’s best-known EP and the song that drew the most attention at release. Its bassline and rhythmic structure became widely discussed after being echoed in Grandmaster Melle Mel’s "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)". "Cavern" became one of the defining reference points for early 1980s downtown funk and post-no wave, and its groove was later cited and borrowed by later dance-punk and club-oriented acts. Its association with "White Lines" kept the track in circulation long after the original 99 Records era.
