Johnny B Goode

Peter Tosh · 1983
Recording

Recorded in 1983 at Dynamic Sound Studios in Kingston, Jamaica for Mama Africa. Peter Tosh and Chris Kimsey produced the session, with Geoffrey Chung and Maxi credited on the recording team. The song turned Chuck Berry’s rock and roll classic into one of Tosh’s most accessible solo singles and a notable crossover from the Mama Africa album. It reached the UK Singles Chart in 1983 and gave Tosh a visible pop-chart presence outside reggae circles. It remains one of Peter Tosh’s best-known solo recordings and a durable example of reggae reworking a rock standard. The track has stayed in circulation through reissues, compilation albums, and performance-video releases.
