Natty Dread

Freddie McGregor · 1983
Recording

Freddie McGregor recorded Natty Dread for his 1983 album Come On Over, released on Real Authentic Sound. The track was produced by Freddie McGregor and credited as a Rita Marley composition on later digital editions. The track appeared during McGregor's early-1980s international breakthrough, when RAS Records issued Come On Over as part of his expansion beyond Jamaica. It placed a familiar Rastafari-themed song within the polished album context that followed Bobby Babylon and Big Ship. Natty Dread remains part of the Come On Over catalogue and continues to circulate through RAS and Sanctuary-linked reissues. It reflects McGregor's 1980s role as both singer and producer in roots and lovers-oriented reggae.
