Renegades of Funk

Recorded in New York for Tommy Boy, the track reunited Afrika Bambaataa and Soulsonic Force with producer Arthur Baker and arranger John Robie. The original 12 inch single was mixed by John Robie and engineered by Jay Burnett. Released in 1983, Renegades Of Funk extended the Planet Rock electro formula into a historical roll call of rebels and innovators. It became one of the groups key Tommy Boy singles and reached number 23 on the Billboard dance chart. The record remains a landmark electro hip hop single and a major source for later sampling and cover versions. Rage Against The Machine introduced it to a rock audience with a 2000 cover on Renegades.
