Buffalo Soldier
Bob Marley & The Wailers · 1983Recording
Recorded at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, with Errol Brown engineering; it was issued posthumously on Confrontation in 1983. The original release paired Marley’s vocal with the Bob Marley & The Wailers production and Tuff Gong studio work that defined the album sessions. The track became one of the standout songs on Confrontation and gave the posthumous album its best-known single. In the UK it reached the Top 5 and spent 13 weeks on the Official Singles Chart. Buffalo Soldier remained one of Bob Marley’s signature songs and a durable entry point to his catalogue. Its refrain and historical imagery kept it in circulation through compilations, radio play, and later covers and references.
