Yellowman · 1983Recording
It was recorded and mixed in Kingston in 1983, chiefly at Channel One Recording Studio and Joe Gibbs Studio, with Henry “Junjo” Lawes producing and the Roots Radics providing the backing track. The track was part of Yellowman’s 1983 breakthrough era and helped define early dancehall for an international audience. Its sharp hook and commanding delivery made it one of his signature recordings at release. The song became one of Yellowman’s most sampled and best-known recordings. It has remained a touchstone for later reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop artists, with the title phrase widely recognized in popular culture.
